We see our mission to help people understand and appreciate their own cultural heritage and the cultural heritage of others as contributing to healthy, vibrant communities and a more peaceful world.

More than 90% of our work brings the award-winning heritage program Project Archaeology to teachers and other educators and the students and learners they engage, throughout the nation. This hands-on archaeological inquiry model creates cultural understanding; enhances science, social studies, and literacy education; and builds 21st-century academic and life skills.

As federal funding disappears, donations from the public are essential for maintaining and expanding IHE/Project Archaeology’s programs to reach teachers and their students. Beginning in tax year 2026, donors are eligible for a new tax benefit for charitable contributions ($1,000/$2,000 for single/joint filers) without having to itemize deductions.
